Statutory Sick Pay rebate scheme is closing 17 March 2022

One of the remaining support schemes introduced during recent coronavirus disruption, was the Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme.

This scheme is being closed on 17 March 2022.

Could you make a final claim?

The SSP rebate scheme has entitled you to reclaim up to two weeks of SSP if your employee had been off work due to a COVID-19 infection or were self-isolating.

You could claim for employees off work on or after 21 December 2021 if both the following were true:

  1. Your PAYE payroll scheme started on or before 30 November 2021,
  2. You had fewer than 250 employees.

You could claim up to £96.35 a week for each employee.

Scheme closing 17 March 2022

The Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme will close on 17 March 2022.

You have until 24 March 2022 to submit any new claims for absence periods up to 17 March 2022, or to amend claims you have already submitted.

You will no longer be able to claim back Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) for your employees’ coronavirus-related absences or self-isolation that occur after 17 March 2022.

From 25 March, HMRC will return to the normal SSP rules, which means you can revert to paying SSP from the fourth qualifying day your employee is off work regardless of the reason for their sickness absence.
